We are currently conducting a survey focused on the economic value of fishing in Kansas. This study, done in collaboration with Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, aims to better understand the spending habits, economic contributions, and overall financial impact of recreational fishing across the state. If you’ve received an invitation to participate, this page provides important details about the survey, who is conducting it, and how your input helps support fishery management and conservation efforts.
What do we mean by “economic value” of fishing?
This means studying the ways that recreational fishing brings money into local communities through spending on equipment, trips, and other related expenses, and how those dollars contribute to the Kansas economy. We’re also asking some “what if” questions to understand how anglers might value different fishing experiences, even ones that don’t yet exist, to help guide future management decisions.
How does this help fisheries management?
This research helps fishery managers understand how much people spend on fishing and what kinds of fishing experiences they value most. With this information, managers can make informed decisions about where to invest resources, how to improve fishing opportunities, and how to plan for long-term needs - all to keep fishing in Kansas enjoyable and sustainable for everyone.
Survey timeline and participation
The survey will be open from June 2 to June 30, 2025 and is available only to individuals who have been invited via email. If you received an invitation, please complete the survey by June 30 to ensure your responses are included. Your email contains a unique link to access the survey.
