There are many ways to get out and fish in Nebraska. This project seeks to learn more about how anglers use guide services to access fisheries. We are hoping to gain information on how many anglers have or have not used a fishing guide service in the past, reasons for hiring a guide, what services are currently provided by guide services, and how guide services influence fishing participation.
In order to collect angler opinions on guided fishing trips, surveys will be sent out to recent Nebraska anglers. Example topics from this survey include anglers’ previous fishing experiences with or without a fishing guide, how anglers learn about fishing, and what factors influence anglers’ decisions to hire or not hire a fishing guide.
Additionally, fishing guide services will be invited to participate in a survey to respond to questions similar to the angler survey to share their point of view. Responses from Nebraska anglers and fishing guide services will help researchers at the University of Nebraska Human Dimensions lab and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission better understand how anglers are getting out fishing.
